merit in the 2007-2008 Society for Technical
Communication online help competition. |

client needed comprehensive help for a multi-module AS/400
based accounting system. They also
wanted a corresponding user manual (see

management software. My task was to create
context sensitive help that mirrored their

Accounting Department
Billing Procedure |
This is from the last job I held (Billing Director)
before I took my part-time technical writing business full time. It serves
as an example of an internal
company procedure. Because the migration to the newer billing system was not yet
complete, I was documenting existing systems that were outdated (10-year-old
DOS apps) and could not handle the many exceptions to billing rules that had
developed over the years, thus it's not pretty, but it worked. |
